Swim Meets General Info | First Swim Meet This Thursday @ Brandon Oaks!

Good Afternoon Barracuda Families, 🐟

We are thrilled to kick off our first swim meet of the season this Thursday, June 5th at 6:00 PM at Brandon Oaks! More detailed information with the location information and heat sheets for swimmer events and the "Athlete Entries" file will be emailed later this week, but we wanted to get this important general swim meet information out early, especially for new families.

This guide includes everything you need to prepare for a smooth and fun meet experience. Please read in full and save for future reference.

Action Item: Make sure you register for the meet if you plan on attending.

All About Swim Meets:

Volunteers: We Need You!

  • Wilson will send a separate message later this week to only the volunteers signed up for Thursday's swim meet.
  • IMPORTANT: Meets cannot begin without all required volunteer roles filled. Please arrive on time and be ready for your shift- your support keeps things running smoothly!

What to Bring:

  • Camping/folding chairs
  • Sharpie (for writing event info on your swimmer’s arm- see below)
  • Water/snacks (though concessions will be available)
  • Sunscreen, hats, and cooling towels (it gets hot!)
  • Extra towels and dry clothes for after the meet
  • Goggles and swim cap

Pro Tips:

  • Pack a labeled Ziploc bag for each swimmer with their goggles, swim cap, snacks, and water to help keep everything organized.
  • Bring extra goggles if you have some.
  • Put sunscreen on before sharpie.
  • The easiest way to get sharpie off of skin is to spray sunscreen on it like Sun Bum spray sunscreen. It'll wipe right off.
  • Print your heat sheets at home before the meet and highlight your swimmer’s info for ease of reference.
  • Show your Barracudas Team Spirit (for new families we are partnering with Reddiset to set up a Spirit Wear Online Store and will send information out once it's operational). Our colors are Royal Blue & White.

Understanding Your Swimmer’s Events:

  • Your swimmer's events will be sent out prior to every swim meet via a file titled "Athlete Entries". Use this to find:
    • Event Number
    • Heat and Lane
    • Stroke and Distance
    • Relay Position (if applicable)
  • Swimmer Events: Swimmers are asked to be at Clerk of Course (Coaches will show them where this is!) 3-4 EVENTS prior to their event. Ex: Swimmer is in Event #13; arrive to the Clerk of Course by Event #9/10. Using the File "Athlete Entries" (will be sent prior to all meets) you can easily reference your swimmer's event's and then be able to find them on the "Heat Sheet" File.
  • Example from the "Athlete Entries" File of how I read my daughter's events:
    • Kensie Burcham
    • #3 1/3 100-Yard Medley Relay-A (1-Back)
    • She is Event #3, Heat #1, Lane #3, in event: 100-Yard Medley Relay-A; and for the relay is swimming 1st (of 4) and the stroke is backstroke.
    • #13 1/3 25-Yard Free
    • She is in Event #13, Heat #1, Lane #3, in event: 25-Yard Freestyle
  • Please write your swimmer’s events on their arm before the meet. We encourage you to write your swimmer's events on the inside of their arm for easy reference for them. Please come to the meet with this completed, as we will not have time upon arrival.
